The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has suspended the supply of gas to the general industry and CNG sector across Punjab. As per SNGPL officials, the decision was taken in order to meet the demand of domestic consumers that has risen considerably. However, the supply of gas to the Zero Rated Industry will continue as usual. The early arrival of winter and the intense tide have led to the increase in gas consumption in the domestic sector this year, said SNGPL spokesperson, over the factors behind rise in gas demand. In December last year, the total gas consumption in the domestic, industrial and CNG sectors was 1387 MMcfd [Million standard cubic feet per day], which has reached 1535 MMcfd this year. According to the spokesperson, the decision to halt gas supply to the general industry and CNG sector has been made on a temporary basis in the context of emergency. As soon as the situation returns to normal, gas supply to the affected sectors will be restored.
