25 Dec, 2019

Pakistan People's Party's (PPP) Central Punjab chapter's president Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that Pakistan is facing political, economic and administrative crises and hence new elections are necessary to steer the country out of these crises.

"The New Year is an election year. Even the allies of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government are talking about new elections. We do not want any in-house change, but new elections in the New Year. The PPP always pulled the country out of crises. The PTI government is pushing the country towards further crises and if this government continues four to six more months then it would be difficult to run the country," Kaira expressed these views while addressing a news conference, here on Tuesday.

PPP leaders - Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmad, Dr Nafisa Shah, Farhatullah Babar, Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar and PPP Media Coordinator Nazir Dhoki and others were also present on this occasion.

Answering a question, Kaira said, "We are not standing with any judge, military or agency but we are standing with the law and Constitution of Pakistan. We stand with those institutions which follow the law and Constitution of Pakistan."

He said that Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly, Shehbaz Shiarf, should come back in the country to fulfill his constitutional responsibilities and lead the opposition. "I also request Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz to break the `fast' of silence," he said.

Kaira said that it is being tried to halt political activities of the PPP. He said, "We had submitted an application for holding public gathering at Liaquat Bagh, but the administration did not give permission. However, we are thankful to the court which has allowed us."

He said that public gathering is the constitutional right of the political parties. "Only the administration has to provide security. We are with the Constitution and the law and no institution is above the Constitution," he said.

He said when Jamaat-e-Islami could hold a rally in Islamabad then PPP, too, has the right to organise a public gathering.

The PPP leader said that Dec 27 gathering is in memory of Benazir Bhutto and the PPP would give a plan for the future. He said that the Prime Minister's talks seem to indicate that he does not want to pass the army chief's extension bill from the Parliament.

Speaking on the occasion, PPP leader Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmad said that Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is a leader who is talking about the rights of the farmers, labourers and poor segment of the.
