The Islamabad High Court (IHC) upheld on Thursday the appointment of Abrarul Haq as chairman of Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS).
The verdict was announced by IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah. The bench had earlier reserved its decision on the petition after hearing arguments from both sides.
Rejecting the petition filed by former PRCS chairman Saeed Elahi, the high court also removed an earlier stay order against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's appointment. The chief justice also stated that matter of appointment falls in the category of administrative issues being looked after by Prime Minister Imran Khan, local media reported.
In his petition, Elahi said that Haq was appointed as chairman for three years. 'My term as chairman was same as Abrarul Haq which will be completed in March 2020' the petition read, adding that it makes the deployment of Haq illegal.
In November, President Dr Arif Alvi, in his capacity as head of the PRCS, removed Elahi and appointed Haq chairman of the society for three years.
