Punjab Minister for Food Samiullah Chaudhry has directed the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Deputy Directors (Food) of every district to visit sugar mills in their respective areas and ensure necessary meeting of the crushing of cane.

He was presiding over the meeting of cabinet committee for sugar sector at civil secretariat here on Friday to review the arrangements of cane crushing season 2019-20. Addressing the meeting, the minister said that PTI government has taken every possible step to safeguard farmers' rights along with saving them from any exploitation.

He directed that DCs and Deputy Directors (Food) should visit sugar mills in their areas and ensure necessary monitoring. He appreciated the performance of Industries department's teams in checking the weights of sugar mills. Different facilities have also been provided to the farmers so that they could get full price of their agri produce, he added. The meeting also pondered over different proposals about sugarcane crushing.

Earlier, Cane Commissioner Punjab gave a detailed briefing about cane crushing. The Minister Industries Mian Aslam Iqbal, Irrigation Minister Mohsin Leghari, Secretary Food, Cane Commissioner Punjab, DG Industries and DC Lahore attended the meeting while seven commissioners and 28 DCs participated through video link.
