Lucky Cement has successfully completed the construction and installation of an additional line of 2.8 million tons per annum at the company’s North (KPK) Plant. Construction and installation after slight modification with respect to the Brownfield Expansion for the additional line of 2.8 million tons per annum at our North (KPK) Plant has been successfully completed as per the given Project completion timelines,” said Lucky Cement in a notification to the Pakistan Stock Exchange. The company informed that the new line was made operational with the commencement of Clinker production on December 30, 2019. “With the addition of this New Line for 2.8 million tons, the total production capacity (including both North and South plants) of the company has now increased from 9.35 million tons to 12.15 million tons per annum,” it added. With the latest expansion and production capacity increased to 12.15 million tons per annum, Lucky Cement has overtaken Bestway Cement, as Pakistan’s largest cement producer. Bestway Cement has a capacity of 10.3 million tonnes per annum. Back in October, Lucky Cement Limited reported net profit after tax of Rs 1.27 billion after taking out Rs 0.25 billion attributable to non-controlling interests for the first quarter ended September 30, 2019, which translates into earnings per share (EPS) of Rs 3.93/share as compared to Rs 9.14/share during the same period last year. The present government of Prime Minister Imran Khan had given a lot of importance to the construction sector, which would help realize the project of five million housing units. The prime minister had said that the promotion of construction sector was the government's foremost priority, adding since around 40 industries were allied with it, the promotion of construction sector besides developing those industries would also create job opportunities for youth.
