Gas deficit in Sindh: SSGCL to add 25 mmcfd gas from new field

Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) will add 25 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) gas from a new field to reduce the prevailing gas deficit in Sindh.

The domestic consumers in Sindh are suffering from gas crisis following rise in gas consumption due to extreme weather conditions.

Earlier, Petroleum Minister Omar Ayub had stated that gas consumption in system of SSGCL has increased by 20 percent during the current winter season.

Despite shutdown of CNG supply to vehicles, people in different parts of Sindh have been complaining of being unable to cook and use heaters as the country is in the grip of intense cold.

The government plans to allocate 25 mmcfd gas from Rizq field to M/S SSGCL. The gas field is located in district Dadu, Sindh. M/S POGC and M/S PPL are joint partners in this field. The government has granted approvals of declaration of commerciality (DOC), joint field development plan and development and production leases.

The CNG stations in Karachi and other areas were opened four days in a period of last 15 days. The households in Karachi and other parts of Sindh are facing gas shortage and low gas pressure despite the gas utility's claims of supplying the fuel to its domestic consumers.

According to the SSGC officials, they were facing difficulties to meet the gas demand of domestic consumers. On the other hand, due to gas load shedding export orders in Karachi factories are being badly affected. Exporters say that all five industrial zones of the city have been closed due to gas load shedding.
