Pakistan Kissan Movement (PKM) welcomed the announcement by the government to give agricultural implements to growers under the Prime Minister's Agricultural Emergency Programme and called for benefiting genuine farmers instead of influential in the garb of balloting.
He termed the programme as a step in the right direction which will not only help increase per acre yield but also assist the farmers to shun the old primitive methods of farming.
Talking to media persons, PKM President Hanif Gujjar said that the government has invited applications till 15th January, 2020, from sugarcane growers of Sargodha, Bhakkar, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Chiniot, Mandi Baha-ud-Din, Qasur, Muzaffargarh, Layyah, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan for provision of implements and machinery to growers through balloting, on concessional rates. He said government should not adopt the system of balloting instead genuine growers be given implements and machinery on first come first serve basis. Balloting is manipulated by big and powerful politicians and bureaucrats who will be the maximum beneficiaries and not the real farmers. Therefore, there should not be any limit to this purchase as it will not revolutionize the agriculture but the agriculture machinery manufacturers as well.
He strongly demanded that government gives implements to farmers by making growers friendly policy to avoid any corruption. Bureaucrats and politicians get benefit by putting in fake growers whereas genuine growers get no benefit.
He said agricultural policies be formed to revolutionize country's agriculture and provide maximum funds to genuine growers on first come first serve basis.
