A day after it decided to rebrand Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) as LUMS University, the varsity administration on Tuesday said that it was not changing its name.
In an email to the students and faculty, Vice-Chancellor Dr Arshad Ahmad clarified that his earlier announcement was written in good faith to reflect the reality of their five schools that comprise their university and 'to encourage to use as a communication strategy the acronym LUMS as a noun, which is how most have come to know us'.
He further said that the message did not intended to change the university's name. He added that the university's name will continue to be used as LUMS.
The administration sent an email to its students on Monday, announcing that it had changed its name from LUMS to LUMS University as the disciplinary growth and its comprehensive status 'is better captured by LUMS University'.
However, this decision did not sit well and soon LUMSU was trending on Twitter with many poking fun and sharing memes over the change in the name.
LUMS probably wanted a 'takhallus' but since it is LUMS, it couldn't find any better name than itself.. Lahore University of MS University is exactly like Amjad in 'Amjad Islam Amjad' or 'Faiz' in Faiz Ahmed Faiz.. 🤷♂️

I do not approve. Incredibly uncool. Reminds me of MCB Bank. Which I savagely made fun of. https://t.co/a5NnqQ692P
