The revenue realization by the Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation-Customs, Karachi during first two quarters of the financial year 2019-20, stood over six times higher than the preceding period of last fiscal year.
According to the performance report of DGI&I-Customs, Karachi, the revenue realization by the department was Rs 315.92 million during this period, which is six times higher than Rs 46.699 million made during preceding period.
The Directorate has established 215 cases worth Rs. 4.8 billion during the period, of which 153 cases were created by ASO while rest of the 62 cases were made by enforcement as against 92 cases worth Rs. 2.28 billion reported during preceding period of past year.
Meanwhile, Director Irfan Javed termed it extra-ordinary progress by ASO and enforcement during the first two quarters of the financial year 2019-20, saying that this was the best performance as compared to the corresponding period of previous five years.
He said that efforts were beefed up and all formations of the Directorate were mobilized to ensure maximum output to achieve, rather surpass the objectives.
Resultantly, the Directorate has not only been able to effectively counter smuggling but also remained successful in creating deterrence among unscrupulous elements attempting to engage in evasion of duties and taxes through mis-declaration at various ports.
