National Institute of Health (NIH) have notified two new polio cases from district Lakki Marwat and DI Khan on Thursday, taking provincial case count tally to 91 in 2019.
According to details, wild polio viruses have been isolated from stool sample of nine months old female child from Baistkhel union council, Tehsil Sarai Naurang, District Lakki Marwat, and 24 months old male child from UC Lachra, Tehsil and District DI Khan.
The epidemiological study of the children shows that all children were zero dose for essential immunization while their SIAs history is under investigation. Coordinator EOC Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Abdul Basit have shown strong exception to the reporting of new polio cases from the province specially from the southern belt saying that it was unfortunate that 91 children are disabled for life.
He said that virus is present in the environment and is hitting unvaccinated or immune-comprise child. Despite the fact, that vaccine is available to prevent children from the diseases, yet parents were not vaccinating their children due to misconceptions and were responsible for the disability of the children, he added.
