The trailer of Gul Makai, based totally on the life of Malala Yousafzai, has been released which stars Indian child actor Reem Shaikh in the role of the youngest-ever Nobel Prize laureate from Pakistan.
The trailer opens to visuals of Swat valley, as Malala’s character says that the birth of a baby girl isn’t celebrated by Pashtuns but she was cherished dearly by all her family.
Later in the trailer, the Taliban militants can be seen torturing and killing the residents of Swat Valley. The trailer journeys to a scene where Malala is delivering a speech. She says that if the Taliban has the power of weapons they should celebrate the power of pen.
The official synopsis of the film reads, ‘Gul Makai’ is a story of courage that overcame fear and oppression. It accounts the courageous journey and struggle of Nobel laureate Malala, from her humble upbringing in the Swat Valley to her becoming the champion for free education to all.
Bollywood film director Amjad Khan said in an interview that it's a privilege and equally a huge responsibility to make a movie on Malala Yousafzai. “I strongly believe that such story's need to be told. There is a Malala in every household, anyone can bring a change if you have the will for it, and that's what Gul Makai portrays. I am extremely happy and very proud that my film Gul Makai is all set to release in theatres,” he said.
The film will hit theatres on January 31.
