Padukone's silent protest

Updated 13 Jan, 2020

That Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone is different from other actors and actresses is a fact. Her sudden appearance at Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student protest has clearly galvanised Bollywood opposition to BJP government's Hindu rashtra agenda. Her 'historic' 'how much will we regress?' remark that she made during protest against the screening of Padmavati movie in which she played the role of 'Rani Padmavati' had irked the right wing politicians, particularly Subramanian Swamy. It is due to her participation in the student protest Bollywood-backing for anti-Modi protests has grown. "Her appearance sparked a social media war between those wanting her new film boycotted - suggesting her only motive was publicity for the movies which released Friday - and others applauding her courage," according to a media report. Well done Deepika; your silent presence at JNU protests will certainly change the game.
