Apparently in order to fulfill its commitment to inaugurate the Greenline Bus Project in early next month, Federal Government released the full allocated amount for the project for the current financial year recently.
According to figures of the funds released for projects under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for 2019-20, federal government released Rs 2.7 billion, which was set aside for the entire financial year for the projects.
The release of the allocated funds for the entire year in six and half months of the current fiscal clearly reflects that the government wants to operationalise the project at earliest.
It is also worth-mentioning that Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), an ally of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Government in center urged the government to release the funds for the development projects especially after the differences developed between the two parties and then settled these in recent days.
With throw-forward of Rs 3.437 billion at the start of the current financial year reflects that the government wants to inaugurate the project in February this year.
Sindh Governor Imran Ismail announced few weeks ago that the project would be inaugurated on February 7, 2020 to provide speedy and comfortable mass transit facility to the people of Karachi.
The total cost of the project is Rs 24.604 billion, which was launched by previous government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to improve the public transport infrastructure in the city.
