Former Justice Ali Akabr, Chairman Judicial Water & Environment Commission has directed the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) high-ups to conduct a detailed survey in Sundar Industrial Estate (SIE) and decide a fix time line with the consultation of industrialist regarding installation of effluent treatment plant (ETP).
Ali Akbar Qureshi issued these directions at a meeting held at the Judicial Commission's complex here on Friday. DG EPA Tanveer Waraich co-chaired the session convened to review implementation of waste water treatment plants in Sundar Industrial Estate.
DD EPA Ali Ijaz briefed the chair that initially 45 units were inspected by EPA and served notices regarding Punjab Environmental Protection Agency Act and process of re-survey going to start to inspect all factories in Sunder.
President SIE Shahzad Khan said that there are over 450 factories in production in SIE and contributing to the economy by generating employment of 70-80 thousand persons and recently in a meeting under CM Punjab, was decided to install effluent treatment plant at Sundar Industrial Estate and Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate to improve environment and ecosystem through treatment of industrial waste water. He requested the chair for giving 10 more days to compliance order of EPA.
MD WASA Zahid Aziz briefed the chair that feasibility report of further treatments plants in process and very soon going to install four waste water treatment plants respectively at Mahmood Booti, Shad Bagh, Shahdara, Baboo Saboo and fifth also in pipe line at Hudyara Drain but these plants could be used for domestic not industrial purpose because it could be possible only with the cooperation of industries. DG EPD said that purpose of implement Punjab Environmental Protection Agency Act not to stop the business; aim is to avoid pollution in any shape.
