As a part of international drive to raise awareness about cancer by Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre has organized a walk to mark the World Cancer Day.
Paediatric cancer patients, their families and hospital staff joined together to raise awareness about this menacing disease. Participants of the walk were holding colourful placards and banners with the theme slogan of World Cancer Day "I am And I will". Although, kids at the walk were under treatment for different types of cancer, but they all were looking determined to defeat the disease.
SKMCH Chief Executive Officer Dr Faisal Sultan talked to the representative of the UICC through video link which was aired live on their social media platforms as well.
He said that on this important occasion of World Cancer Day we are celebrating the survival, hope and the struggle of people who live with and work against cancer.
We also held a Children's Mela, a carnival for paediatric cancer patients and their families in which children were able to take part in different activities to celebrate hope.
Besides the events, our colleagues are participating in various media programs to commemorate and mark the importance of the World Cancer Day and to take the opportunity to highlight the need for prevention, early detection and quality treatment facilities for all patients, irrespective of their ability to pay.
