The 27th meeting of the Punjab Cabinet Standing Committee on Finance and Development approved the proposals of Punjab Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) of converting the Rs 1.5 billion non-development expenditures into development budget besides supplementary grant for new schemes of school education department and up-gradation of the Bibi Pakdaman shrine. It also gave approval of funds for ongoing schemes of the local government and community development department.
Punjab Finance Minister Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakhat chaired meeting, which was also attended by Punjab Industry and Trade Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal, Advisor to Chief Minister for Finance Dr Salman Shah, Chief Secretary Punjab Azam Suleman Khan and other officials concerned.
Different departments submitted 23 proposals in the meeting. The Punjab Finance Minister asked the local government department to prepare a master plan to resolve the water and sanitation issues in big and small cities. Further, he also ordered active monitoring and repairing mechanism for the Metro Bus Service to maintain the quality of service, besides making operational estimates for Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) during the ongoing fiscal year. He also instructed the officials concerned to avoid hiring unnecessary staff in OLMT. "The ongoing schemes that were not completed due to non-availability of the resources should be reviewed and included in the next Annual Development Programme," he added.
The Minister asked the planning and development and finance departments to investigate the reason behind the reconstruction of the Judicial Academy boundary wall and also audit the income and expenditures of the Punjab Public Service Commission. He also instructed the DG Sports to present sponsorship details for Kabadi world cup in order to estimates the complete expenditures before releasing grants for it.
The meeting also discussed the incomplete schemes relating to road sector and the education department's service and pension rules.
The Minister instructed the finance department to review the service and pension rules before the next budget. He also ordered the officials concerned to present a revenue collection report of all tax and non-tax collecting department.
