The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Monday recommended the name of Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan for the chief justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC). Justice Qasim is the senior puisne judge of the LHC. He will remain CJ LHC till July 5th, 2021.
The incumbent CJ IHC Justice Mamoon Rashid will lay down his robe on 18th March, 2020. In this regard, a JCP meeting was held in the Supreme Court building. It was presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed and participated by Justice Mushir Alam senior puisne judge, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Maqbool Baqir, former judge Justice Dost Muhammad, Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat, Advocate General of Punjab, and representative the Pakistan Bar Council.
The recommendation of the JCP would be forwarded to the Parliamentary Committee on Judges' appointment for approval. After the consent of the parliamentary committee it will go to the president for issuance of a notification.
