Further rise in electricity rates are in the offing, after it was learnt that electricity prices are likely to increase by 98 paisas per unit, as the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) begins hearing today (Tuesday). As per details, prices will be raised under the garb of monthly fuel adjustments for the month of November. According to the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), 39.01 percent of electricity was generated from hydropower in the month of November, 27.31 percent from coal, 9.34pc from local gas, 9.20pc from imported LNG and 11.55pc from nuclear sources. The CPPA informed that 7.2 billion units of electricity was generated last month, which was generated at the cost of Rs25 billion; 9 paise per unit was observed in power transmission loss, whereas, Rs10.05 per unit of electricity was generated from imported gas.
