A Lahore anti-terrorism court (ATC) convicted on Wednesday Jamat ud Dawa leader Hafiz Saeed in two terror-financing cases.
ATC Judge Arshad Hussain Bhatta announced the verdict. The JuD chief has been given a jail term of five and a half years and a fine of Rs15,000 in each case.
On February 6, the court had earlier reserved its verdict in the two cases. The Punjab Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) had arrested Saeed last year in July. The CTD arrested the JuD chief when he was travelling to Gujranwala from Lahore.
“The main charge is that he is gathering funds for banned outfits, which is illegal," Chief Minister Punjab's spokesperson Shahbaz Gill said following the JuD's arrest.
