Prime Minister Imran Khan Thursday directed that a national action plan be formulated within one week against profiteering and adulteration of food commodities.
While chairing a high-level meeting on prices control, hoarding, profiteering as well as on adulteration, the prime minister was given a detailed briefing by provincial chief secretaries on prices of edible items in their respective provinces.
The prime minister was informed that prices of some items - sugar, rice and flour - in the federal capital, the Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa were moving towards stability. There is also decline in prices of some commodities, he was further told.
The prime minister has taken strong exception to adulteration of food items.
Provincial chief secretaries gave a detailed briefing to the prime minister on prices of essential commodities in their respective provinces.
The prime minister was also informed that as per decision of the federal government Passco has provided 0.4 million ton wheat to Sindh, while the provincial government's request for 0.1m ton more wheat would be considered by the Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet (ECC).
The prime minister expressed his concern over increase in flour prices in Karachi and directed Sindh chief secretary to control increase in the price of flour and action be taken against hoarders.
The prime minister directed that process be started for establishment of special cell for comprehensive planning to project demand-supply of essential commodities in the country.
The prime minister was also informed about online delivery of essential commodities in the federal capital as well as in all the big cities.
