Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has written a letter to National Assembly (NA) Speaker Asad Qaiser urging him to inquire from Shehbaz Sharif the final date of his return from London.
In a tweet from his official handle on Friday, the minister said that he had written to the NA speaker and told him that the leader of the opposition in the NA had not appeared before the Parliament for a long time. He also wrote that Shehbaz left his post as chief of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
"His absence is a violation of Assembly rules," Chaudhry said. He added that an opposition leader plays an important role in legislation and Shehbaz is also receiving special privileges.
He further said that the post of the leader of the opposition could not be left empty for a very long time, adding that if Shehbaz does not return then the process of choosing a new opposition leader should be initiated.

The Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz leader left for London last year in November with his ailing brother Nawaz Sharif who is seeking medical treatment there. Before leaving, Shehbaz resigned from his post as chief of PAC and nominated PML-N's Rana Tanvir Hussain as his replacement.
