CCPO denies custody of accused Bhatti

The Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore categorically denied custody of Asad Bhatti, nominated suspect in disappearance case of SSP Mufaker Adeel, and Shahbaz Tatla, former assistant advocate general. A report submitted before the Lahore High Court filed by brother of Asad said that Bhatti had not been arrested so far and he is still at large. Justice Waheed Khan after going through the police report referred the petition to the court of Justice Ch Shehram Sarwar, who had heard it previously.

The petitioner's counsel stated that Asad Bhatti himself appeared before the police on February 15. However, he said, the police detained Bhatti without registration of any case and had been subjecting him to physical torture to extract a statement of its choice. The lawyer said the detainee was a diabetic and cardiac patient and his life was in danger at the hands of police. He was not yet produced before any court of law in violation of his fundamental right and asked the court to get his brother recovered from the illegal custody of police. SSP Adeel and Advocate Tatla are missing since Feb 7 last.
