Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Friday said that the progress in Afghan peace process was the victory of Prime Minister Imran Khan's stance and the exemplary role of the Pakistan armed forces.
As the US and Taliban are going to sign an agreement on February 29 (today) at the end of a week-long period of violence reduction in Afghanistan, Awan said that Prime Minister Khan always supported dialogue, due to which it became possible. In a tweet, she said that Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi would represent Pakistan at the signing ceremony.
Besides Amir of Qatar, foreign ministers of seven countries and representatives from over 50 countries would attend the ceremony, Awan added.
The special assistant said that Pakistan would continue its positive role for promotion of durable peace in the region.
The agreement will be signed upon the successful implementation of an understanding with the Taliban on a significant and nationwide reduction in violence, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said.
