Dawood's bold admission

29 Feb, 2020

That adviser to prime minister on commerce and industries Razak Dawood calls a spade a spade is a fact that has found its best expression from his honest admission that the incumbent government is actually responsible for increase in prices of locally-assembled cars. According to him, the government is responsible for increase in prices of locally-assembled cars as in the last budget additional customs duty, excise duty and sales tax were increased in addition to withholding tax and Regulatory Duty (RD).

The fact that needs to be appreciated is the bold admission of a key member of the government's economic team. Not only has he been looking after commerce and industry, he is also taking steps that are aimed at increasing country's exports. Having said that, I want to conclude my argument by stating the fact that the present government's approach to various facets of economics and finance is strongly characterised by transparency.
