Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders on Wednesday held a meeting with Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari at his chamber at the Parliament House and discussed current political situation of the country.
The PML-N leaders, Ahsan Iqbal and former speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq met with the PPP chairman and discussed the issues relating to the current political situation, the absence of Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif, and other matters.
After the meeting, Ahsan Iqbal said that no one was raising concerns over the style of leadership of party president Shahbaz Sharif, refuting claims that some of the party members were disgruntled over Shahbaz's way of leading the party.
He said that that Shahbaz Sharif should stay in London for former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's treatment as long as he wanted.
He said, "Shahbaz Sharif should return when he is satisfied with the treatment of Nawaz Sharif, we are not demanding anything."
Answering a question, Ahsan Iqbal said that there was no pressure over Shahbaz's return from the party leaders, adding that the party was currently focused on Nawaz Sharif's complete recovery.
Iqbal said that in the absence of Shahbaz Sharif, other party leaders were carrying out political activities.
On Tuesday, senior PML-N leadership had urged party president and National Assembly Opposition Leader Shahbaz Sharif to return to the country to lead the upcoming protests against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.
According to sources, the PML-N members had also considered the appointment of a senior leader, preferably Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to head the party in the parliament in the absence of Shahbaz Sharif, as Khawaja Asif was not "representing the aspirations of the party lawmakers".
