The visit of members of the Senate Standing Committee on State and Frontier Regions (Safron) to Torkham border was cancelled because of heavy flood at Pak-Afghan highway that suspended all kind of traffic for five hours on Thursday.
Chairman of the standing committee Haji Taj Muhammad Afridi said that he along with scores of Senators had arrived till Ali Masjid area of Jamrud to attend briefing pertaining Torkham activities but returned back due to flood at the highway.
According to residents of Landi Kotal, the construction work of the Pak-Afghan road had been approved in 2012 with support of US Aid and had completed in 2015 however during initial stage on demand of locals, nine bridges to be established at spell ways at the road had been okayed but later on for unknown reason the plan was revised and the contractor Frontier Work Organization did not built it that added miseries of the locals.
