The Amun Taraqqi Party (ATP) Chairman, Muhammad Faiq Shah has demanded government to take emergency measures to cope with increasing losses to national economy due to rapidly spread of coronavirus pandemic in Pakistan.
Faiq Shah was talking to traders' delegation here at the party's central secretariat on Wednesday. He proposed the formation of a board of eminent economists to take decisions on war-footing to cope with economic downturn in the country.
While commenting on report of the Asian Development Bank, the ATP chief said Pakistan's economy is likely to inflict a loss of over Rs 5 billion after outbreak of coronavirus. He criticized that government is neither taking seriousness toward resolution of any issue nor making plan for revival of the country feeble economy.
Similarly, he said no preparedness to cope with natural calamity as the government had always shown activeness after deterioration of the whole situation, he termed the policy as unwise and unfeasible for the country.
ATP Chairman stressed that the government should keenly focus on economy, if not do so, the people will die from hunger and starvation amid rapidly spread of coronavirus. He lamented the authorities didn't take preemptive steps after
outbreak of coronavirus in China, Iran and other parts of the world.
Faiq Shah said it is more shocking that government machinery unmoved to deal with prevailing economic and health related issues owing to outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.
