Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) Wednesday requested the chairman Appellate Tribunal to avoid the regular and the main appeals, especially at the Karachi bench amid COVID-19 pandemic.
In a letter issued here, the KTBA suggested the chairman to devise a practical and safe working plan for the hearings at all the benches of the tribunal to prevent the suspected spread of the virus.
It said that the working of Appellate Tribunal was distinctively featured with its presence in all the four provinces and hence any of its decision carries pervasive implications, however it also remains a fact that the threat from the unwarranted spread of the virus has far worsening ramifications.
It would, therefore, be in the best interest and well being of all us that the regular and the main appeals at the Tribunal, specially at Karachi Bench are not fixed and only Special benches are formed for conducting and hearing the Injunction (Stay) applications, it added.
KTBA urged the chairman to pay heed on the request which will not only be in line with the measures taken by the High courts but also be of great help in dispelling the atmosphere of fear and apprehensions amongst the counsels and the taxpayers.
