'Pakistan Day musings'

25 Mar, 2020

Business Recorder op-ed writer Rashed Rahman in his latest contribution for the newspaper titled "Pakistan Day musings" has highlighted a key fact about how the Covid-19 is playing out in the developed world. According to him, for example, "the US is the third worst hit country, not the least because President Donald Trump as usual fumbled when the pandemic first hit. Europe, with the dubious distinction now of the centre of the global epidemic, has gratefully accepted the help in terms of equipment and medical personnel offered by China, Cuba and Russia. These humanitarian gestures will endear these countries to people all over the world."
Cuba's Fidel Castro had famously said: "Our country doesn't drop bombs on other people. We don't have biological or nuclear bombs. We train our doctors to help other people." Waving Italian and Cuban flags, a team of Cuban healthcare professionals and workers has already arrived in Milan. No doubt, the Covid-19 pandemic has plunged the capitalist world into a deep crisis, giving birth to hopes of a positive change in the global order. Professor Fukuyama's "End of History" thesis is again subject to intense scrutiny, if not outright repudiation.
