The Pakistan Association of Auto parts and Accessories Manufacturers (Paapam) in a letter to the Engineering Development Board offered manufacturing facilities/expertise to develop miscellaneous medical equipment including ventilators.
Paapam Chairman Muhammad Akram while talking to Business Recorder on Wednesday said he had written the letter in view of the fast spread of pandemic corona virus and dire need of ventilators. He also commended the government's efforts to contain the situation specially allowing immediate duty/tax free imports of medical equipment/items.
"We know the efforts being made at various government forums to explore the possibility of manufacturing of vital medical equipment like ventilators," he said. He was of the view that the government could also consider assigning the responsibility of manufacturing of other medical items to the Paapam members companies which would not only provide required quantity of medical gadgets on one side but could help contain import bill. He said under the current situation, his association expresses its unequivocal support for confronting the health-related challenges faced by the nation.
