Pakistan has welcomed the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB) joint statement of calling upon G20 countries to suspend debt payment of developing countries, and urged multilateral for relief on their debt.
Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Hammad Azhar in response to the IMF and the WB joint statement took to Twitter, and stated, "we welcome joint statement of WB WB and IMF calling upon G20 countries to suspend debt payment of developing countries. PM Imran Khan has been urging this since COVID-19 pandemic. We hope it will be accepted and we also urged multilateral for relief on their debt". The IMF and the World Bank have called for governments to put a hold on debt payments from the world's poorest nations, so they can battle the coronavirus pandemic. Pakistan is IDA eligible country.
