Suspension of debt payments

This is apropos a Business Recorder news item "IMF, WB call for suspension of debt payments by poorest nations". This is indeed a matter of great satisfaction that the Bretton Woods institutions have
called for governments to put a hold on debt payments from the world's poorest nations so they can battle the coronavirus pandemic.
"The World Bank Group and the IMF believe it is imperative at this moment to provide a global sense of relief for developing countries as well as a strong signal to financial markets," the Washington-based development lenders have been quoted as saying in a joint statement.
It appears that Pakistan is not among the countries that qualify for the most generous aid. But, as the government of Pakistan has decided to approach the IMF for a fresh, fast-track loan to fight off the challenge of coronavirus, the global lending agencies are expected to look at the growing fiscal woes of Pakistan sympathetically. Both the IMF and World Bank and other lending agencies are requested to order suspension of debt payments by Pakistan as well.
