The Government of Pakistan is in constant touch with the Iranian government on the issue of zaireen (pilgrims) and is working together through mutual consultation to facilitate the stranded Pakistani citizens, the Foreign Office said.
Responding to media queries, Foreign Office spokesperson Aisha Farooqui said that since the outbreak of coronavirus in Qom and other parts of Iran, thousands of zaireen had been assisted and helped cross the border. "Although, the border is now closed, however, when our nationals arrive there, it becomes our responsibility to allow them into the country," the spokesperson said. She said that all facilities were being upgraded and strengthened at Taftan border on Pakistan's side by the relevant authorities to deal with the unprecedented situation.
