Directorate of Customs Intelligence, Karachi in co-ordination with Naval Intelligence, Pakistan Navy claimed to have seized an unprecedented quantity of crystal meth (ICE) 100 kilograms worth Rs 1.6 billion approx in the international market.
According to the official details, the action was taken on a tip-off, which revealed that some unscrupulous elements were planning to smuggle myriad quantity of ICE from Karachi coast.
Reacting on this information, joint surveillance was mounted by Customs intelligence, Karachi along with naval intelligence at the coastline and dock yards. Resultantly, it was informed that ICE was dumped at a location near Ibrahim Hyderi area, Karachi.
The surveillance team raided the said spot and recovered 100 kilograms of ICE worth Rs 1.6 billion in the international market. The drug cache was planned to be smuggled abroad via sea route.
Despite mounting joint surveillance, no arrest was reported by the agencies, which made seizure of what they claimed "unprecedented" quantity of drugs. Legal and criminal proceedings have been initiated.
