A man on Friday set himself on fire outside the Prime Minister's House and later died of burn injuries at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
According to details, Faisal Mehmood, 43, allegedly set himself on fire at Gate No 2 outside the Prime Minister's House. He was rushed to the PIMS hospital where he died of his injuries.
Sources said that a letter had been recovered from the possession of the deceased. He had written the letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan before committing suicide, they said.
In the letter, Faisal Mehmood said that it had been a mistake of his that he had voted for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), said the sources. He stated that he had sent an application to the Prime Minister's House against a local politician, but no action was taken against him.
He said the application had been marked to Rawalpindi CPO, but when he went to Pir Wadhai Police Station for action against the politician, a fake FIR concerning 20 liters of liquor was allegedly lodged against him, said the sources.
Meanwhile, the chief commissioner ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident after the prime minister took notice of the incident. The chief commissioner appointed Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat, district magistrate of ICT, to conduct a judicial inquiry into the said matter and submit a report within 48 hours.
