Food Minister Punjab Abdul Aleem Khan has warned the officials of food department not to weigh more while buying grains during the ongoing wheat procurement campaign 2020-21.
He also said that small growers should not be overlooked during this procurement drive and make full payment to them according to the grains received from them.
The Minister issued these directives while talking to Pakistan Kissan Ittehad (PKI) President Khalid Mahmood Khokhar at his office here on Tuesday. Khokhar apprised the minister about issues of wheat growers' especially small farmers.
Abdul Aleem Khan said that modern technology was vital in the agriculture sector for better production of any crop. He said that big farmers should come forward to support the government for the improvement of the food sector. Senior Minister said that this year, the government provided open "gunny bags" to farmers for wheat procurement. Similarly, this year's campaign of wheat procurement was successful as the role of the middleman had been minimized.
Abdul Aleem Khan made it clear that he would make changes in the Food Department according to the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan and would play his role as far as possible to increase the capacity of small farmers.
Abdul Aleem Khan appreciated the activities of the Kissan Ittehad for the welfare of cultivators and assured of his all possible support.
