MPA Abdul Rasheed and his eight family members, including his wife, sister and children have been infected with the virus.
For the past few days, the Sindh Assembly lawmaker has been involved in social work in Lyari area, which is stated to be the reason of him contracting the disease.
Meanwhile, corona test of 21 relatives of Abdul Rasheed were also conducted that turned out to be negative.
MPA Abdul Rasheed is member of Finance Committee, Standing Committee on Works & Services (Chairperson), Standing Committee on Local Government, Rural Development, Public Health Engineering, Housing Town Planning, Business Advisory Committee, Standing Committee on Auqaf, Religious Affairs, Zakat and Ushr.
Rasheed was elected MPA from PS-108, which comprises areas of Lyari Town, in the 2018 general elections. He is affiliated with Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) for the past several years.
Earlier, a Tharparkar-based MPA of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Rana Hameer Singh, also contracted the coronavirus.
On Wednesday, Sindh reported eight more deaths due to coronavirus.
In a tweet Senator Murtaza Wahab announced that the province conducted 3729 tests today out of which 404 came out positive. Sindh has conducted 51790 coronavirus tests so far out of which 5695 people have tested positive, the provincial spokesperson said.
Wahab also reported eight new deaths due to coronavirus, which takes the death toll to 100 in the province. In the past 24 hours, 208 people also recovered from COVID-19, taking the tally to 1169.
