Federally-funded development projects in Karachi showed mix trends in terms of receiving the funds during the first ten months (July-April) of current financial year.
In the period under review, some of the projects received complete funds against their allocations whereas others didn't receive any funds.
Federal Government is funding various projects in water, transport, road and others sectors to improve the infrastructure in the city under Karachi Package.
According to first ten months data released by federal government, Construction of Road from Dumlotte Wells up to Link Road Adjacent to Education City District Malir, Construction of Road over Malir Bund from Dada Bhoy Town / Expressway up to Limits of PNS Mehran, District East, Karachi and Green Line BRTS Operations projects didn't receive any funds against the allocations made in Public Sector Development Progamme (PSDP).
Likewise, Construction of Flyover on Jinnah Avenue M-9 didn't receive any funds, which is included in Karachi Package. Greenline Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), Karachi, Construction of Flyover at Sakhi Hassan, Five Star, & KDA.
Roundabout along Sher Shah Suri Road, Karachi, Re-construction of Mangho Pir Road from Jam Chakro to Banaras, Karachi, Re-construction of Nishtar Road & Mangho Pir Road, Karachi and Rehabilitation/ Up-gradation of Existing Fire Fighting System of KMC, Karachi received the allocated amount in PSDP completely during these months.
Greater Karachi Water Supply Scheme (K-IV), planned to be executed on 50:50 cost sharing basis by federal and Sindh Governments didn't receive any funds from the federal government in these months despite the allocation of Rs400 million for it in PSPD for this fiscal.
Federal Government slashed the allocations from Rs800 million to Rs400 million in Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) of financial year 2019-20, however, even then it didn't release any fund in the first ten months of the current fiscal. The total cost of the project is Rs 25.510 billion, of which federal government has to contribute Rs12.775 billion.
The project is designed to provide 650 million gallons of water daily to Karachi in three phases.
Establishment of Combined Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) for Industrial Areas of Karachi received Rs250 million out of 500 million allocated in PSPD 2019-20 as part of the federal government's share for the construction of project. The federal government's share in the financing of the project stands at Rs.3.893 billion.
