THE RUPEE: Fall persists

INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: Pakistan Rupee went down by 40 paisas for buying and by 20 paisas for selling against USD in interbank market closing at 160.20 and 160.40 respectively.

OPEN MARKET RATES: In the open market, against USD, PKR exchange rate recorded no change for buying whereas it lost 20 paisas for selling closing at 159.50 and 160.20 respectively.

Against Euro, PKR did not show any change in exchange rate for buying whereas for selling, it appreciated by 20 paisas closing at 171 and 172.80 for buying and selling respectively.

Against UAE Dirham, PKR exchange rate went down by 20 paisas for buying and by 30 paisas for selling closing at 42.50 and 42.90 respectively.

Against Saudi Riyal, PKR exchange rate went down by 10 paisas for both buying and selling closing at 41.40 and 41.70 respectively.

LAHORE

The Pak rupee depreciated its worth in relation to the greenback and British Pound in the local currency market on Thursday.

According to currency dealers, the greenback opened at Rs 158.40 and Rs 161.80 on buying and selling sides, respectively, as against Rs 157.10 and Rs 160.00 on Wednesday. At the close, the dollar was traded at Rs 158.20 and Rs 161.50 on buying and selling, counters, respectively, the dealers added.

The local currency also showed weakness against British Pound. The Pound was traded at Rs 194.00 and Rs 198.50 on buying and selling sides, respectively, as against Rs 193.00 and Rs 196.50 on Wednesday, the dealers added.

ISLAMABAD

The dollar gained Re 1 against the rupee at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Thursday.

The dollar opened at Rs161 (buying) and Rs 161.50 (selling) against last rate of Rs160 (buying) and Rs 160.50 (selling).

It closed at Rs161 (buying) and Rs 161.50 (selling).

The buying and selling rates of one tola of gold were Rs 100,700 (selling) and Rs 100,500 (buying) in the local Sarafa (gold) markets of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
