The Lahore High Court on Monday directed the police department to resolve by June 11 the dispute regarding denial of promotion to police inspector Rizwan Qadir, a complainant in state FIR of Model Town killings incident, and accused in the second FIR of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).
The court observed that the law was equal for everyone and it could not be used on personal whims of anyone. The court directed the police department to treat all police officials without any discrimination and decide the matter by next hearing; otherwise, it will decide the matter as per law.
Earlier, the court expressed dismay over the affairs of police department as it transpired to the court that five other accused in the same FIR had been granted promotion to next rank. However, a law officer stated that the officials had been promoted mistakenly.
The Additional Inspector General of Police (Establishment), present in the court room, requested the court allow some time to fix the flaws in promotions. The court accordingly allowed time and directed the officer to treat all police officials without any discrimination.
Inspector Rizwan Qadir through his counsel submitted that the petitioner despite being eligible for his promotion to the rank of deputy superintendent of police had been deprived of his right.
