Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar Wednesday said that elected local government representatives try their best to resolve problems of the people as well as issues of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation as the department's employees are also serving Karachiites.
Talking to Sajjan Union delegation led by Syed Zulfikar Ali Shah here, the Mayor said that employees' salaries were increased by 15 percent after hectic efforts. "I have written many letters to Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah for resolving the issue," he added. He said that similar efforts are also being made to resolve issue pertaining to dues of retired employees who have been waiting since 2015.
He said the retired employees after serving the city for so many years now waiting for their dues to be cleared but amount of Rs3.5 billion could not be given to thousands of employees as the provincial government didn't release the funds. He added that KMC is taking all-out measures for welfare and betterment of employees despite having limited resources.
Akhtar asked employees to continue serving the masses with courage for providing relief to the people.
Speaking on the occasion, Syed Zulfikar Ali Shah expressed gratitude to Mayor and congratulated him on the increment in salaries of KMC employees. He said that the Mayor had fulfilled demand of the employees. He also asked the Mayor to pass directives for release of supplementary salaries' bill after Eidul Fitr.
Akhtar said departmental action is taken against delinquent officials and employees, adding that union or party should not interfere in that.
Meanwhile, KMC Unit Labour Division MQM delegation also met the Mayor and thanked him for his efforts in increase of salaries. The MQM Labour Division was of the view that employees could observe Eid in a better manner after increment. Akhtar said that increment was right of the employees and he just tried to ensure their right.
