FAZAL-UR-REHMAN
Ajay says, “Rohit is still working on the script, only after it is locked can we start casting. We don’t write films with stars in mind.” Ajay Devgan and Kajol will be back together on the screen soon. According to sources “the married couple has been approached by the state government for their Save the Girl Child campaign and will appear in a two-and-a-half minute film that rolls out next month. The idea is to spread awareness against female feticide”. Ajay said, “The film will play in theatres and hopefully on TV too. I can understand people in the last century believing a girl child to be a financial burden since a son earned money for the family while a daughter was married off. But today, women are not only working. Many continue to look after their ageing parents even after marriage, while the sons move away”. “The idea is not just for people to listen to us, but also to make them understand that such atrocities are illogical in a country where the devi is worshipped. I was shocked by the research findings that proved that doctors are involved too. There’s an immediate need to change the mindset,” He added. The actors, who have a nine-year-old daughter, Nysa, will not limit the endeavour to just shooting the film, but will spread awareness through other media-related activity. Asked whether he and Kajol would carry the message forward through other campaigns and he replied, “for a cause like this, we’ll be there”.
