KARACHI: The recent Tom-Kat split may turn out to be one of the most expensive divorces Hollywood has ever seen.
Now that Katie Holmes has filed for divorce, the question arises how much money will she get in spite of the couples pre-nuptial agreement?
The couple signed the pre-nup when they married in 2006 which entitles Holmes for a payout at the time of divorce with the amount depending on the duration of their marriage.
Cruise made $75 million over last 12 months with his two successful ventures ‘Rock of Ages’ and ‘Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol,’ and have landed him at the top of the list of Hollywood’s highest-paid actors.
He has made roughly $200 million over the past five years. Dorothy Pomerantz, Forbes' L.A. Bureau Chief said, “Cruise makes smart deals. He still earns from his older films. When his movies are aired on TV, he gets money from that. He has an endless stream of revenue.”
Forbes estimates that Holmes made roughly $5 million last year.
The agreement calls for equitable distribution of money made during the course of a marriage assuming both spouses jointly own the wealth.
Besides their individual earnings, the couple own a Beverely Hills estate valued at $30 million, and a Manhattan brownstone valued at more than $15 million.
According to Los Angles Business Journal, Mel Gibson and Robyn Moore’s divorce was the most expensive split in Hollywood history dividing his $850 million wealth between the two while the last among top ten divorces, James Cameron & Linda Hamilton split got Hamilton $50 million.
According to sources, Holmes may receive $3 million for each year of divorce but the figure is likely to be much higher.
Holmes settlement is going to be a big one, but if it will rank as one of Hollywood’s most expensive divorces, is yet to be revealed.
