KARACHI: Going back to the original plan to shoot “Joker” directed by Shirish Kunder in 3D, UTV Movies, who bought rights to the movie recently, has decided that the film starring Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Minissha Lamba would be in the regular 2D format to reach out to a wider audience.
"Joker will release in 2D format. It's a decision taken by business heads based on the reactions to recent 2D and 3D films of big superstars," tweeted Kunder.
Kunder said, "Initially we had plans to make Joker in the 3D format. But that is not to be. Taking into account the recent responses of 3D movies, we decided to reach out to a wider audience."
Some recent 3D films in Hindi include “RA.One”, “Don 2: The King Is Back” and “Dangerous Ishq”.
UTV, the joint producer of the film, think more than 3D, Joker has to its advantage the star power of Kumar and the storyline. Apparently, 3D still has a long way to go in India. Even Producer Rakesh Roshan, who had earlier envisaged converting “Krrish 3”'s 2D format into 3D said, "We shall take a decision in this regard only when we complete the entire shoot. Whether to incorporate 3D or not depends on the length of the film."
Joker is a sci-fi fantasy adventure. Kumar plays a character who returns to his hometown - a place that's so remote that it's not even on the map. But the sequence of events puts the little town not just on the country's map, it makes it the focus of the entire globe. The story also involves aliens.
The movie will hit theatres on August 31.
We just hope it manages to please the kids as they are its target audience.
