Declared ‘Woman of the Year 2009’ by Glamour magazine, Pop Star Rihanna has said she dreads falling in love because she doesn't want to have her heart broken again.

The singer, who has not had a serious relationship since splitting from Chris Brown after he brutally assaulted her in February 2009, is skeptical of getting involved again.

"When I was in love, I fell so hard. The way it made me feel was priceless. And in a blink of an eye my whole life changed. Everything that I knew was different. I never thought I'd feel that pain in my life. I'm afraid of feeling that again," she told Harper's Bazaar.

While she didn't specifically name Brown as the person who hurt her, the couple went through
a devastating and dramatic public break-up in 2009.

Brown, the rapper had been arrested and charged with assault after hitting her in a car on
the way to the Grammy’s.

A Los Angeles County Superior Judge had ordered Brown to stay at least 50 yards away from
Rihanna for the next five years, except during industry events when he must maintain a distance of at lease 10 yards. Brown was expected to do community service such as picking up
trash and removing graffiti.

"I'm rebellious through my music, my fashion, tattoos and my hair. I have been conservative
in my love life, it's pretty much nonexistent, If I come across someone who I find really
cool, I'll hang out. But the minute I find that we're getting too close - I don't let people
in," she was quoted as saying.

The 24-year-old star has said she is very "conservative" in her personal life and finds it
hard to trust people.

In 2012, Time magazine named Rihanna one of the most influential people in the world.
According to Forbes magazine, she was also ranked as the fourth most powerful celebrity in
2012.
