KARACHI: The first ever international dolphin show, with the cooperation of the Pakistan Navy is going to be held in the city of Karachi in October, later this year. This was announced by Rear Admiral Khawja Ghazanfar Hussain, Commander of the Pakistan Navy, at a ceremony at the Maritime Museum.
Accompanied by Lev Mukhametov, CEO of Utrish Dolphinarium and Mustafa Kamal of Talent Broker International (TBI), the Rear Admiral said the first dolphin show would be held on October 1st.
The 80 foot long and 50 foot wide swimming pool, with a depth of 14 feet will be built in compliance with international standards and requirements for the dolphin show. A big arena, with a seating capacity of 4000, will also be built for the show.
Utrish Dolphinarium Inc, instituted in 1984, has arranged dolphin shows all over the world, mostly in the USA, Australia, Canada, Egypt, Turkey, Kuwait, Dubai, Qatar, Malaysia and South Africa with 24 bottlenose dolphins, 15 sea horses, and 20 sea lions.
Mr Mukhametov said staff of Utrish Dolphinarium Inc. comprising of five performers, two handlers and a doctor are due to arrive in Karachi.
Four bottlenose dolphins and two sea lions will perform 160 shows. There will be four shows daily, two for school children in morning and two for the general public and families in afternoon.
Later, another team of 42 members of the company will arrive including performers, trainers, dolphin handlers and veterinary doctors.
TBI’s Mr Kamal expressed the hope that visitors would enjoy the dazzling array of flips, leaps and twists and other exciting performances by dolphins in water.
