KARACHI: The Sindh chapter of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) issued a statement on July 6, that directs all local satellite TV channels and distribution networks to abstain from promoting the upcoming Bollywood blockbuster “Ek tha Tiger” due to be released on August 15. PEMRA has barred entertainment companies from promoting the film until a No Objection Certificate (NOC) is issued by the Central Board of Film Censors. The decision was taken because the Yash Raj production is rumoured to depict the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) in a notorious way. Moreover, the film tarnishes the image of one of the world’s premiere spy agencies and other state owned institutions. Indian films have proved to be a good revenue stream for local cinema houses which have struggled in the past, but the barring of ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ which is one of the most awaited films of the year, will be huge blow to the country’s cinema industry. Ek Tha Tiger features Superstars Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles under the Direction of Kabir Khan, the Director behind the 2009 smash-hit ‘New York’.
