KARACHI: The remake of the popular 90s science fiction flick Total Recall is scheduled for a release date of August 3rd.The remake sees Irish heart-throb Colin Farrell play the male lead, a role donned in the original by Hollywood veteran Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The remake also stars British beauty Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Bryan Cranston, John Cho and Bill Nighy in pivotal supporting roles.
The futuristic thriller is inspired by the famous short story ‘We Can Remember It for You Wholesale’ by Philip K. Dick, which plays around with themes of reality and memory.
Total Recall is a story of a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Farrell), who comes across the mind-trip offered by Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into reality. Quaid believes this to be a perfect sabbatical from his stressful life, until the procedure goes horribly wrong and his dreams become a nightmare as he finds himself on the run from police.
Eventually Quaid learns that the police are controlled by the tyrannical Chancellor Cohaagen (Cranston), the leader of free world. He then teams up with rebel fighter (Biel) to stop Cohaagen. On his mission, Quaid finds the lines between fantasy and reality a blur. As the world hangs in the balance, Quaid discovers his true love, his true fate and his true identity.
