KARACHI: Steven Tyler has confirmed that he is quitting the hit singing show ‘America Idol’. Tyler has been a Judge on the show for the last two seasons alongside Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson.
According to media sources the “Sweet Emotion” singer is said to be leaving the show to re-dedicate himself to music with his rock band Aerosmith.
The Rockstar said that while he had a great time as a panellist on the show, “It’s time to bring rock back.”
“After some long ... hard ... thoughts ... I've decided it's time for me to let go of my mistress 'American Idol' before she boils my rabbit,” adding, “I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I'm back - but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I've got two fists in the air and I'm kicking the door open with my band.”
The band is currently touring the US and is set to release their next album in the fall.
Mike Darnell, Fox's President of Alternative Entertainment, said in a statement, “It's been a tremendous honor to have Steven on 'American Idol' for the past two seasons. We are very sad that Steven has chosen to focus more on his music, but we always knew when we hired a rock 'n' roll legend, he would go back to the music.”
Tyler’s departure leaves only Randy Jackson, as the original Judge as Popstar Jennifer Lopez too, has reportedly quit the show.
