KARACHI: The American Idol judging panel is again in doubt as sources say Mariah Carey is too expensive to make a comeback on the show.
The ‘Honey’ singer was reportedly joining the show after former Judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler announced their departure after two seasons.
Singers Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj and Adam Lambert alongside Carey were all said to be in the running to take on the judge’s spot. However according to sources Carey was reportedly ‘in’ as a Judge.
But recently, Carey’s husband Nick Cannon has revealed that her entrance has not been confirmed, and he believes that she would charge much higher than the salaries paid to departing Judges Lopez and Tyler.
Cannon said, “I don’t know if they can afford Mariah Carey. That’s a lot of money. If they gave J.Lo $20 million, they might have to double that!”
American Idol is one of the most popular reality shows on television. The show’s popularity has been showing a decline since last season’s finale.
The show’s Producers are looking to revive its success by providing a heavy dose of superstars in the judging panel.
Carey’s entrance could revitalize the show with her considerable expertise in music field. The Grammy Award-winning singer is one of the best selling artists of all time with countless hits on the billboard top charts.
